What this means for the office that runs the trip.

For 28 days starting April 23, 2026, KASE is offline entirely — not weather-affected, not slot-restricted, closed. Every Aspen-bound aircraft files an alternate at flight-plan time. For private aviation, that's KEGE 90% of the time, KRIL for smaller jets wanting Atlantic Aviation continuity, GJT for parties already routing in from the west, or DEN for the commercial-connection cohort.

The ground-transport problem is geography. KEGE handles its normal Vail/Beaver Creek volume plus the entire diverted Aspen demand. KRIL is a small Garfield County airport that on a normal day sees 46 aircraft; during peak closure days it has historically run far higher. Local rideshare is effectively unavailable. Taxi capacity is limited. The vehicles that move without friction are the ones that were already routing toward the right airport before the aircraft began its approach.

JetSet monitors aircraft tail numbers — not schedule data, not airline ETA feeds. Your block covers all four alternate airports under the same flat rate. If your charter operator changes the alternate at flight planning, the vehicle repositions automatically. No call to your desk. No rebooking. No renegotiation of price.

For executive assistants briefing principal travel during the closure window: hand off the tail number, the expected airport, the destination, and a contingency contact. That's all we need. The principal lands somewhere and is in the vehicle ten feet from the airstair, regardless of which airport "somewhere" turned out to be.

Closure FAQ.

01

When exactly does Aspen Airport close in 2026?

Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (KASE) closes Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 9:00 AM and reopens Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 7:00 PM — a 28-day full closure. No commercial flights, no private jets, no general aviation traffic.
02

Why is Aspen Airport closing?

Annual runway and taxiway pavement maintenance. KASE has historically run a spring maintenance closure each year. After the full runway reconstruction in 2027, this annual cycle is expected to end.
03

What airports can I fly into during the closure?

Per the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport's official guidance, the available alternates are: Eagle County Regional (KEGE) at 68 miles, Rifle Garfield County (KRIL) at 61 miles, Denver International (DEN) at 160 miles, and Grand Junction Regional (GJT) at 130 miles. Rifle is general aviation only — no commercial service.
04

Which alternate airport is best for a private jet trip to Aspen?

For most private aviation arrivals, Eagle County Regional (KEGE) is the recommended alternate — it has the most consistent weather, the broadest aircraft compatibility, and Signature Flight Support and NetJets both operate there. Rifle (KRIL) is the closest by drive time and uses the same Atlantic Aviation FBO that operates at KASE — strong continuity for owners and operators familiar with Atlantic.
05

How does ground transportation work during the closure?

Reserve a JetSet block for your travel dates. Specify your aircraft tail number and expected arrival airport at booking. Your block covers KEGE, KRIL, and the Aspen → Snowmass transfer at the same flat rate. If your aircraft is rerouted at the last minute, the vehicle repositions automatically.
06

Is the closure going to affect prices or availability?

Yes — block availability is tighter than usual during the closure window. Peak demand falls on April 24-26 (immediate inbound) and May 21-24 (return travelers). We recommend booking at least 14 days ahead for any travel within the closure window. Standard flat-rate pricing applies — no closure-period surge.
07

What if I have a flight already booked into KASE during the closure?

Contact your airline or charter operator directly. Most carriers will rebook to an alternate Aspen-area airport without change fees. Once you have a confirmed alternate destination, we can adjust your block to match — or hold the existing block if your airport is one of KEGE, KRIL, DEN, or GJT (all four are covered).
08

Will JetSet operate as normal during the closure?

Yes — operations continue normally. JetSet holds credentialed ramp access at Atlantic Aviation (KRIL), Signature (KEGE), and NetJets (KEGE). Dispatch monitors aircraft tail numbers across all alternate airports, and our chauffeurs are familiar with all four corridors into the Roaring Fork Valley. Reach dispatch at 970.742.0200 or support@jetsetaspen.com.
